Small town Canadian Maggie Szabo Takes on LA w/ Billboard Premiere of “Don’t Give Up”

Maggie Szabo packs a big voice for standing at just five feet tall. She’s a Canadian recording artist and songwriter now living in LA. Hailing from a small town in Canada, Maggie made the move to the city of angels alone without knowing anyone. She says, “I definitely grew up a lot in the first month of living here. I’m super fortunate that I’ve met SO many amazingly talented people here, but this biz can have a dark side. I think I’m getting better at knowing how to prevent myself from getting into certain situations. The reality is, part of this biz requires getting smart about certain things and learning how to stand up for yourself. It has definitely made me a stronger person.”

Luckily, Maggie has also found dear friends in the process of wading through the muck in LA. Check out Magie’s new single, which she wrote and recorded with her two friends Chaz Mason and Stefan Lit in LA.

Entitled ‘Don’t Give Up On Love’, the video is a love letter of support to the LGBTQ community and tells the story of a transgender high school student attending prom. It’s a touching and relevant narrative which is so important to today’s society.

She said, “Stefan has a studio so when we get together to work, that’s usually where it happens. I was inspired by the lyrics ‘don’t give up on love,’ and that’s where the song started. It’s a feeling we’ve all felt before, and the lyrics and melody came very naturally. I wanted the lyrics to be really honest, which is where the first line of the verse came from; ‘everyone knows this world isn’t perfect'”.

GGM: How did you get over insecurities or fears and start releasing music?

“To be honest, I don’t think the fear ever really goes away…. I kind of just choose to ignore it. I think we all sometimes have those voices in the back of our head. It’s just a matter of tuning those voices of self-doubt out. I have a great team around me of people I trust, so when we’re all loving a song, it makes me confident about sharing it with the world.”

With her feet planted in LA, Maggie’s 2018 is looking very bright after Billboard’s premiere of “Don’t Give Up’. Szabo has already found success with over 14 + million Youtube views and has been featured on high profile media outlets including  Billboard, Perez Hilton, Huffington Post and Yahoo Music! among others.

With plans to release new music, music videos and land a tour in 2018, Maggie says she’s excited to keep learning. “I also want to do more artist collaborations. I love working with other people, and there’s a lot to learn from writing and working with other artists.”
